James Estate continues a tradition started some 30 years ago when vineyard and winery practices were commenced on the estate property. The vineyard is situated in the Upper Hunter Valley NSW, 10km from Rosemount Estate and 18km from Denman, a renowned quality vineyard area. The Upper Hunter wine region has soils that range from sandy loams to heavy clays on deep sandstone bedrock. A vast range of microclimates are also experienced creating distinctions between alluvial river flats, valley floors and sloping hillsides. This gives it a character distinct from the more well travelled Lower Hunter regions of Pokolbin and Lovedale.
Surrounded by the Wollemi National Park, James Estate enjoys an enviable position with sweeping views of the Goulburn River from our spacious cellar door sales and tasting area. The property and winery cover 1560 acres with planting capacity for 850 acres. If the Lower Hunter is the civilized, tourist centre of the region, the Upper Hunter is the frontier; a little less travelled and also a little wilder. Here wedge tailed eagles soar over over the Hunter powerhouses of wine production from our estates on Bylong Valley Way to Rosemount and Arrowfield and back. It's a great part of the world and a great wine region to visit.
